Title:
The Informed Educator: High Schools and Preparation for the World of Work
Description: Preparing students for the 21st century world of work will challenge high schools in new ways. They will need to determine how curriculum can be modified to incorporate the teaching of what is increasingly being called "21st century skills," and, moreover, will need to find ways to assess students' mastery of skills. In addition to presenting some of the data that characterizes high school students as ill-prepared for life after high school and examining the knowledge, skills and abilities that are critical in the 21st century, this Informed Educator discusses way for high schools to prepare students through a rigorous academic, career, and technical curriculum and explores two models--Career Academics and High Schools That Work--to see how some high schools are trying to make the connection between school and the world of work.  20 pages. 2008
