This Project seeks the restoration with native species of the Ribadeo Mondigo property, which has been in timber production for over 70 years. The 186.7 ha property is surrounded by permanent watercourses. The current vegetation is made up of monospecific stands of Eucalyptus globulus and Eucalyptus nitens, with few stands of Pinus pinaster subsp. atlantica and Betula alba from natural regeneration. In 2023, a fire affected 2300 ha in the region, affecting almost the totality of the property. Prior to the fire, the existing eucalyptus trees had already compromised their stability and had inadequate development. The restoration strategy will focus on using native species to increase the floristic and structural diversity of the new forest. The forest management will focus on creating complex and resilient systems. The reforestation will seek to promote the restoration of the burnt areas, mitigate the current sources of degradation and accelerate the recovery of the natural dynamics of the forest.
